SOLD to new proud owner in Germany on 24/7/2011!
Well, I'm Stürmchen (German for little Storm, as I'm a Mk2 Rocco Storm special edition), and I was also born in Osnabrück, and hit the roads first in February 1985. Eric picked me up not too far away from where he lives now on January 15 2003 as a daily driver replacement for his ailing Polo.
It took me 2 weeks to convince him that a Storm Rocco is really too good to be used as a daily driver (as there were only approx. 600 ever made, 300 in Havana Brown like me, and 300 in Cosmos Blue), and another week until I had my own garage, opposite to Roodster (a Mk1 Rieger Rocco) .
This is when work started on me: Removal of any rust bits, new radio and speakers, a nice loud Powerflow exhaust system was fitted so I could roar in the neighbourhood , coupled to a nice Supersprint 4-2-1 branch manifold, smoked indicators, striped rear lights, Brock B2 alloys, grille spoiler, FK coil-overs (to greatly improve my ride, as the original shocks had just about had it, too soft), replacement tank and braided brake hoses to improve on that old RHD Rocco brakes syndrom, i.e. they're crap.
In September 2009 I had an unfortunate incident on what was supposed to be my last trip for the 2009 season before going into wintersleep: My pistons hit valves! Whilst replacing the crankshaft sprocket oil seal an incorrect tightening torque value in the Bentley manual had led to the crankshaft sprocket bolt becoming loose! It all resulted in me getting a reconditioned head with new injectors, newly lapped in valves, new valve stem seals, new head and other gaskets, fresh fluids .
Realising the true value of an unmodified Storm, however, Eric decided to keep all the original bits worthwhile keeping, but does like me much more the way I am now .
With all this work going on, I had to start going to shows as well, of course. The best one so far was Edition 38 where I was joined by my older brother Roodster. Neither if us won anything , prizes went to Rados instead, sorry Innocence (a G60 Rado) . I've also been to Roadstar a few times and to Stanford Hall, where I always come last in the coupé category . To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Scirocco and the 20th anniversary of the Mk2 Storm Scirocco Eric took me to Karmann in September 2004, where I met up with at least another 40 Roccos .
Being the rowdy of the Karmann gang in Eric's collection, he particularly enjoys my roaring around town , even though I may not get as many looks as
Roodster.
Eric sold me to a careful and proud new owner in Germany on 24/7/2011, having driven me all the way from Coventry to Germany.
Further pictures of me can be found
